altitude treatment in Cusco

What is it?

It is a non-invasive clinically proven treatment for altitude sickness, the Hyperbaric Chamber could just save your holiday!

How does it work?

During a hyperbaric session, the patient rests comfortably inside an enclosure called a hyperbaric chamber. The pressure in the chamber is slowly increased to a pressure of 1.3 atmospheres of pressure, which is equivalent to the pressure felt when diving to 10 foot below sea level or descending over 11,000 vertical feet. The increased pressure in the chamber (hyper=high, baric=pressure) allows the blood, plasma and other liquids of the body to absorb additional oxygen, greatly increasing oxygen uptake by the cells, tissues, glands, organs, brain and fluids of the body. These elevated oxygen levels prompt a multitude of healthy benefits that culminate in a dramatic healing effect.

How long do the affects last?

The affects are instantaneous and can last for 24 hours but in many times they can be long lasting as they give your the body the chance to fully adapt to the altitude.

How many sessions do I need to have?

In many cases one session of 60 or 90 minutes is sufficient however if you have severe altitude sickness and have a trek or a strenuous day ahead of you then we recommend two or three sessions.

How much does it cost?

We have tried our best to keep the costs affordable for all (please note that in the US a 60 minute session starts from $150).

1 session:

60 minutes - $75

90 minutes - $110

2 session:

60 minutes - $130

90 minutes - $200

3 sessions:

60 minutes - $180

90 minutes - $280

A More Technical Explanation of How it Works A gas under pressure is more likely to dissolve into a liquid. In Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, the gas is oxygen and the liquid is blood. However, under pressure, oxygen doesn’t only hook up to red blood cells (the “traditional” way oxygen is delivered to tissues); it also dissolves into the plasma, the liquid portion of the blood. When that oxygen-enriched plasma circulates near dormant or injured tissue such as a bruised muscle, a sprained tendon or ligament, a surgical wound, or an injured brain as a result of head trauma, the oxygen in the plasma can infiltrate more deeply into the damaged area.

A Relaxing Experience It is a peaceful, enjoyable experience. Our hyperbaric chamber is comfortable and patients can stretch out in total comfort and read, listen to music or even use a computer while oxygen therapy bestows its benefits. Many people practice breathing and relaxation.
